Dr. Bill Heath Speaks To South Lawrence Economic Development Association

On Tuesday March 4th, Director of School Dr. Bill Heath spoke to the South Lawrence Economic Development Association.

Heath gave members an update on education in Lawrence County, noting that Lawrence County Schools again were tops in the region (consisting of 16 schools) academically this year. This is the third consecutive year the school system has earned that designation.

Heath also gave an update on the proposed building program that would result in a new high school in Loretto and Summertown. He said the first phase of the proposal should be voted on by the county commission later this month.

If passed, a new school could be built and ready to move into by August 2016. As proposed, the building program would not require any new taxes from the citizens of Lawrence County.

Members of the group expressed support for the school building program, noting that the construction of new schools will provide equity in our county in terms of the programs offered and will also make our county more attractive to prospective businesses.
